Review Shift Schedule Online

Shift Schedule Online is DVBE's 8th online listening activity. Learners can listen to two store managers arranging employees into next week's shift schedule. They are trying to accommodate employee availabilities and restrictions while keeping the payroll as low as possible.

Go to Shift Schedule Online and return to this blog to give your review.

DVBE will be developing a complementary classroom activity in the future.

Review Brag, Brag, Brag (Online)

DVBE will be launching its newest online listening activity this fall: Brag, Brag, Brag!

DVBE is inviting you to try out this free BE activity (www.dvbe.bz/bbb) and give us your opinion.

Here is how I recommend you do BBB:

----------------------------

1. Listen to all the BBB clips to get the general idea. Do not expect to understand everything.

2. Do the calculations while reading (not listening to) the transcripts. The dialogue moves too fast to do the calculations while listening—even for native speaker business people.

a. Find the words that suggest a particular calculation.

b. Translate the words into the calculation.

c. Do the calculation.

d. Enter the data on your computer screen.

e. Enter all the data for each section.

f. Check your work.

g. Double-click the cells of your wrong answers to see the explanation for the right answer

3. If you are having problems with BBB:

a. work with an English-learning friend because “two heads are better than one” with BBB or

b. study Increase & Decrease Online to gain the language skills to do BBB.

4. Listen again to BBB when you are finished with the calculations. You will understand the dialogue much better.

---------------------------
But you are free to choose another method. Have fun with BBB, and I look forward to your comments.
